PUPPET MAKING

Puppets, or Kathputlis as they are called in the local dialect, are wooden dolls dressed up in attractive clothes, which are made to move and manoeuvred via a set of strings. Kathputili shows have traditionally dramatised the lives of kings and other heroes of folklore. As recently as a couple of decades ago, Kathputilis were the main form of popular entertainment in villages and remote districts, often used to champion social and cultural issues.
